Decos Example

Haf showed the decos example he generated with the current KIELER RCA on the new big screen!

The editing was (nearly) fun! ... but there are still some showstoppers:

  • The worst bug is the GMF font bug when editing labels on a zoom level != 100% (#409)
  • KSbasE is really nice to use, but there are some transformations missing (#408)
  • The auto-layout shows some strange spline errors (#260)
  • The next step haf would like to perform: simulation, right now there is a exception when starting the transformation.
  • When editing large diagrams with a lot of hierarchy, the diagram is not very nice to look at. Maybe there is a way to improve readability by adding colors or transparency (#415)
  • The example management should be improved. Right now the way to open an example is:
    • Check out model folder and use the import option to import the model folder.
    • This needs to be improved ! (#422)
  • Additional changes:
    • The preference pages for the synccharts and dataflow editors should be moved from the root to the KIELER category. (#416,#417)

Wiki Pages

The KIELER wiki pages need some improvements (#418)

  • rvh thinks that the publications related to KIELER are hard to find on the main page.
  • So the main page should be compacted, is it really necessary to have a navigation bar with all projects ?
  • It would be a good idea to have two different landing pages: One for external users and one for internals.

Code Reviews and Rating

Reviews

  • msp gave a short report from the first two code reviews
  • A very good opportunity for novice eclipse or java developers to learn from reading other peoples code!
  • There are a lot of people wanting to take part in a code review, so we will need a wiki page for coordination (#420)
  • To give an overview of the reviewed code it would be very nice if we'd have a mechanism to generated class diagrams from java doclets (#419)

Rating

  • The KIELER rating tag will be :
    • @kieler.rating date [proposed] color [comment].
    • Where the developer sets the 'proposed' tag for his code and requests a new state for his code.
    • Should the rating tags be removed when a new state has been set or simply add a new tag ?
    • For updating a class from one color to the next we will need some sort of 'todo-list', but for now haf/msp will have a look at the code and decide if the new class state is ok.
    • Nice-to-have: Top10 for the most common mistakes.
    • Another nice-to-have: A page just like the  ptolemy code coverage page, maybe there is a hudson plug-in to generated such a page ? (#421)

ACM Programming Contest

  • Rvh and mlo gave an introduction to the acm programming contest.
  • mlo took part in the acm programming contest 2009 and his team has been more successful than the last team from kiel!
  • Prof. Jansen will probably give a course for the acm programming contest in the next semester.

Synccharts for Java

  • Rvh showed his latest work on creating synccharts for Java as a proof-of-concept. Java has some minor design flaws, but in general it is possible to create synccharts just like in SC.
