Kieler meeting 2011-10-12

begin: 10:30 h, end: 11:12 h

participants: msp, cmot, chsch, cds, mri, swe, ima

protocol: ima

agenda:

  • PopUp?-Bars in editors
  • Ticket #1566
  • Demo: Ptolemy immediate transitions
  • Pre-Release
  • Miscellanious

PopUp?-Bars:

cds: The PopUp?-bars in editors appear even when switched off. This disturbs the working process considerably.

conclusion of discussion: As the PopUp?-bars are actually in use, a complete removal is inadvisable. The problem has to be solved by keeping the bars from popping up in switched-off mode. See ticket #1770

Ticket #1566:

issue: import of Ptolemy-models - what to do, if an actor cannot be found (ports unknown, instantiation needed)
possible solutions: stop import, warning and highlighting (at this stage they are marked by a red symbol already, which is quite helpful) or Berkeley's favorite: write export function, all informations available if loaded at Berkeley
conclusion of discussion: explore last-mentioned solution. cds will close ticket and create link to a new one

Demo:

issue: Ptolemy. Up to now it was not possible to model immediate transitions. Now this has changed.

cmot demonstrated models with immediate transitions and their simulations. The immediate transitions are taken immediately and are highlighted accordingly. Even parallel sections with interacting signals work fine. The problem with immediate cycles created by internal signals is fixed now: They trigger a PopUp?-Warning instead of causing a stack overflow exception. What is still not possible is to declare transitions of initial states immediate.

During the discussion, cds proposed the highlighting of initial state-symbols at the beginning of simulation.

Next Pre-Release:

The denoted date at the time is for three weeks hence. Discussion has shown that all participants favor a date for an Indigo-compatible release in the close future. A release at the end of the month or the beginning of the next is intended. New features are the Kwebs Client, KLOTS and Klay Force.

Additional issues:

  • Stability of Graphviz-Problem: Blocking read from input stream causes permanent waiting in case of the occurrence of an error that is reported to the StdError? stream. Solution by msp: A watchdog thread is in sleep function for the timeout. The main tread interrupts the watchdog tread in case of success. In the other case, the watchdog thread will close the stream, of which Graphviz will be given notice. XText - waiting for Input - will receive EoF. The Error message will be read and displayed.
  • Reworking of coreUI: chsch will isolate parts that are subject of development and testing from the rest.
  • Partitioning of subcategory Layout: GMF Bridge, Graphiti, Graphviz/OGDF (marked "optional"), Remote (Kwebs, marked "optional)

Miscellaneous:

  • swe will write ticket relating to the import of KEG-files - request for simplyfication
  • msp, chsch, cmot, cds will meet to clear the actual tickets
  • reviews and tests are pending
  • Changes: Ptolemy 8.1 devel, report problems to: cmot
