Installation

Cygwin is installed from the Web with setup.exe. The installation location should be <tt>C:\cygwin</tt>. Source packages should be put in <tt>C:\cygsource</tt>.

Misc Information

Home Directory

To ensure Cygwin uses the same home directory as Windows the home directory field in <tt>/etc/passwd</tt> has to be set to:

/cygdrive/c/Dokumente und Einstellungen/$username/Eigene Dateien

Please note that spaces must not be quoted with \.

File Permissons

When using cygwin with Samba the following environment variable has to be set on Windows to ensure file permissions work correctly.

CYGWIN=smbntsec
